2014年APEC(亞太經合會)將於北京舉辦，日本媒體報導，大陸擬邀請馬英九總統訪問北京，藉由參加APEC為統一鋪路。

根據《日本經濟新聞》報導，大陸正積極準備邀請馬英九參加2014年在北京舉辦的APEC會議。如果成真，馬英九將成為政府遷台後，首位訪問大陸的中華民國總統。

分析認為，大陸邀請馬英九訪陸，目的為「為統一鋪路」。不過，報導也指出，如果馬英九訪問大陸與習近平會談，可能讓民意支持率只剩10%的馬政府更加衰弱。

《日本經濟新聞》長期關注大陸經濟發展，在大陸北京、上海、重慶、廣州等地設有支局，網站同時並有簡體與繁體中文供瀏覽，被視為市立場較親左派的媒體。
