Taiwan- and China-based panel makers are seeing increased orders from Samsung Electronics for TN panels used in mid-range handsets.
Makers such as AU Optronics (AUO),Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) and BOE are seeing handset TN panel orders from Samsung for 4-, 4.3-, 4.5-, 4.66-, 5- and 5.8-inch units as Samsung hopes to expand its influence in the mid-range smartphone market.
Industry sources said that Samsung's move also comes as competition in the high-end smartphone segment is increasing while demand for entry-level and mid-range smartphones remains steady.
Market observers believe that Samsung will continue to make a variety of entry-level to high-end phones rather than focusing mostly on high-end products to meet various demand across the globe, including markets in China, Latin America and Africa.
However, the sources said that in terms of notebooks Samsung is expected to focus less on entry-level to mid-range products.
