【吳貞儀／綜合外電報導】美國急凍中！北極寒流周末侵襲美國中西和東北部，帶來零下35℃低溫，寒風指數更可達零下50℃，破了許多地方近20年的低溫紀錄。專家警告冰凍氣溫易引發凍傷和體溫過低症，呼籲民眾不要出門，並儲備好糧食和藥物。

強烈暴風雪上周四起肆虐美中西和東北部，至少造成16死，卻只是這場嚴苛氣候的序曲。昨起，北極寒流帶來的極冷空氣籠罩這些地區，甚至連墨西哥灣都受影響。明尼蘇達州國際佛斯市氣溫降至零下35℃，芝加哥零下26℃，寒風吹襲下的體感溫度更可低至零下45到56℃。

氣象專家表示，在冰凍低溫中站5分鐘就有可能凍傷或發生體溫過低症，密爾瓦基州就有一名66歲老人因體溫過低症喪命。
